Through the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Support Scheme, Community Energy Scotland can offer support to a range of community organisations to help with technical assistance to identify projects to reduce their energy consumption. In addition there is the CARES Loan scheme to support community and rural businesses with pre-planning costs for renewable energy revenue generation projects.

Energy Saving Scotland advice centre Highlands and Islands

The Energy Saving Scotland advice centre delivers free, impartial advice on sustainable transport, energy efficiency and renewable energy for the home. The organisation works in partnership with communities and individuals across the Highlands and Islands to help develop low carbon lifestyles and cut carbon dioxide emissions.

Environment and Resource Management Unit

Shetland Islands Council’s Environment and Resource Management Unit offers advice and support on minimising waste and managing resources.

Schools can request advice on the Eco Schools program. Businesses can benefit from free environmental audits and support in joining the national Tidy Business Scheme. The public will find information on recycling, composting and ways to minimise their waste as well as advice and assistance on funding applications for allotments.

Hjaltland Housing Association – One Stop Shop

Hjaltland Housing Association logo

Hjaltland Housing Association operates a One Stop Shop in partnership with the Shetland Islands Council to provide advice and information for private sector properties. The association can also provide grant funding for home improvements, such as insulation, heating, windows, doors and draught-proofing, to households in Fuel Poverty. They can also advise households on whether they could be eligible for cheaper electricity bills through Social Tariffs.

Community Energy Efficiency Programme (CEEP)

The CEEP scheme is administered by Shetland Islands Council in partnership with Community Energy Scotland and is designed to help community groups that own and/or manage buildings and facilities to reduce their energy costs.

The scheme can help community groups with energy efficiency measures such as draught proofing and additional insulation as well as a number of other improvements.
